About the Author

Frank L. Gardner, PhD, ABPP, is an associate professor and director of the PsyD program in clinical psychology at La Salle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Gardner is board certified in clinical psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology, a distinction that fewer than 5% of licensed psychologists attain. Gardner has 24 years of experience as a practicing clinical psychologist, graduate educator and supervisor, and sport psychologist. He has worked with youth, collegiate, Olympic, and professional athletes. For 19 years he has been highly involved as a sport psychologist at the professional level, working extensively for multiple teams within the National Hockey League, the National Basketball Association, and Major League Baseball.

A member of the American Psychological Association (APA), Gardner is one of the first psychologists to receive the Certified Consultant designation by the Association for Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology. He was one of the primary developers of the APA Proficiency in Sport Psychology and has developed the curriculum for the training of sport psychologists for two sport psychology training programs.

Zella E. Moore, PsyD, is an assistant professor of psychology at Manhattan College. She is also associate director of research and development for the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anger and Violence. Moore has been a sport psychology consultant for teams in the National Hockey League, the National Basketball Association, and the World Indoor Soccer League. She is a member of the APA and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, and she is responsible for teaching and supervising clinical and clinical sport psychology doctoral students.
