About the Author

Eric is a Senior Fellow and Thought Leader on Digital Leadership with the International Center for Leadership in Education (ICLE). Prior to this, he was the award-winning Principal at New Milford High School. Under his leadership, his school became a globally recognized model for innovative practices. Eric oversaw the successful implementation of several sustainable change initiatives that radically transformed the learning culture at his school while increasing achievement. His work focuses on leading and learning in the digital age as a model for moving schools and districts forward. This has led to the formation of the Pillars of Digital Leadership, a framework for all educators to initiate sustainable change to transform school cultures. As a result, Eric has emerged as an innovative leader, best selling author, and sought after speaker. His main focus is purposeful integration of technology to facilitate student learning, improve communications with stakeholders, enhance public relations, create a positive brand presence, discover opportunity, transform learning spaces, and help educators grow professionally. Eric has received numerous awards and acknowledgments for his work. I loved the information in this book, and I am able to use this information along with the Montessori method while I am developing my new school library, and planning for a makerspace to be designed in each classroom that will be specifically designed for the age and developmental level of each classroom of students in my school.

A fantastic read for all educators that are looking to use some innovative practices to enhance student learning. The book is laid out in a fashion that allows you to use each chapter separately as a guide for each specific practice. Read this ASAP and start preparing your students for the skills they will need in the fast paced change of the 21st Century.

This book is well written, easy to follow and Eric is such an engaged author who even is discussing this book in our book study Voxer group. This has inspired me in many ways to look at how I can improve my teaching style to increase higher order thinking skills.

I just finished this outstanding book by Eric Sheninger, one of the leading educational thinkers in the world today. The title of the book is perfect, as throughout it, Sheninger makes the case that we need to make dramatic changes in our schools and classrooms, moving beyond the "common" to more relevant, authentic, innovative, and student-centered experiences. Although such practices are currently "uncommon," if we read Eric's book, we have a roadmap for changing the status quo and making "uncommon learning" the norm. Throughout this book, Sheninger offers practical, proven ideas for transforming our classrooms, libraries, and school cultures. He draws on both his past experiences as principal of an award-winning high school as well as his current experiences working with educators around the globe, sharing lessons learned from both that can be replicated by others hoping to improve educational experiences for both students and teachers. This book is clearly written and organized. It starts by making the case for why we must change the way we do school. Then, it proceeds with chapter-by-chapter examples of creating specific "uncommon" learning experiences. In each of these chapters, Sheninger offers specific stories and examples showing the "how" of change. In the final chapter, "Schools that Work for Students," Sheninger is at his best, offering a call to action so that our kids' learning experiences are ones that make them actually want to come to school. Specifically, he offers eight ways to move uncommon learning experiences forward in our schools. Great book for the coach who wants to impact lives and transform business effectiveness. It's only 4 stars because the earlier edition (2nd) contained an appendix at the back that included a wealth of information that today, you have to search their website for.

This book is great if you are interested in coaching, a coach already, or just a student of life. The website shares a wealth of self reflective tools as well as tools for using in a coaching business. I learned a lot about myself and learned new tools for communicating on a daily basis with friends, family, and coworkers.

Seemed to be a repeat of coaching literature and communication literature I read in college. Wasn't anything more than a regurgitation of life coaching academic studies. Good summary. Would be useful CLEP due to its shortness and easy reading.

I really like Co-Active Coaching, 3rd edition, for the clarity it provides of coaching and providing a number of relevant, practical tools and examples to help operationalize the many concepts shared. It is required reading for the Columbia University Coaching Program!

I'm taking a life coaching program and this book was a suggested reading. It's helpful on how to stay present. It's easy to be able to refer to a topic or situation you want to look into.

Classic coaching textbook but would have preferred to have all the information in the book instead of having to go online.

Bernini virtually created Baroque Rome. Without his contributions, we could not walk across the Ponte Sant'Angelo escorted by the angelic statuary that he designed for its balustrades. The Basilica of St. Peter would not have the sonorous crescendo of Bernini's bronze Baldacchino over St. Peter's tomb. We could not enjoy the huge splashing water display and vigorous drama of the figures on his Fountain of the Four Rivers in the Piazza Navona.

Using much previously unpublished research, Charles Avery traces Bernini's career from his brilliant beginnings to his last mature works, including his architecture, and pays special attention to his techniques in drawing, modeling, and carving. 400 illustrations, 80 in color.

Wittkower's (1901-71) book, first published in 1955 and updated in 1966 and 1981, derives from an Italian edition of 1900. The text, which deals chiefly with the sculptures of this multifaceted Italian artist (1598-1680), is a classic. Though some of the entries have been updated and some new plates added, the main reason for this new edition seems to be its first issuance in paperback. This, and the fact that the color plates are less than stellar, mean that all but advanced art history collections can safely pass on this edition if they have earlier ones. Avery's book takes a broader look at Bernini, covering sculpture, drawings, models in terra cotta, urbanistic projects such as fountains, and his work for St. Peter's and other Roman churches. The color photographs are better than those in the Phaidon book, where they are separate from the text; neither title offers uniformly better black-and-whites. Avery (sculpture, Victoria and Albert Museum) writes well, offers more context and comparative illustrations, and draws on material unavailable to Wittkower in shaping his text.
